"All In?"

You can’t have it both ways,

It’s what they always say,

But people still would like to,

They try it everyday.

Want their cake and eat it, too,

Compromise what’s right,

Mix up what’s a lie and true,

And love both dark and light.

They get downright divided,

And compartmentalized,

With big, bipolar loyalties,

And schizo-church demise.

The old word’s double-minded,

But some folks more than two,

It’s a wonder they can ever,

Have a good breakthrough.

But hope for all the lukewarm,

Jesus comes to call,

Behold He knocks upon your door,

Says open it up, y’all.

‘Cause He can cure the doubting heart,

And all betrayers, too,

Look what He did for Thomas,

And Simon Peter’s crew.

So if your life with Jesus,

Has been all in, then out,

Let the Spirit show you,

What this is all about.

Get yourself committed,

Don’t hold one thing back,

Jesus cures the compromised,

And helps us get on track.

“Look, I stand at the door and knock…” (Rev. 3:19, NLT)

Jesus knocks at the door of our hearts. I’ve heard it preached in a lot of sermons. It’s a verse typically used when calling people to Jesus who need to be saved. Open the door of your heart and let Jesus come in to be your Savior and Lord. I hope you will. I hope you have. But the verse in the book of Revelation where Jesus is knocking at the door is actually used in a different way. It that chapter it is not a call for unbelievers to be saved. Jesus is pictured as actually speaking to a church in Laodicea that has become lukewarm. They have compromised their spiritual commitment and need to allow Jesus to cure what is wrong with them. He’s knocking at their door, asking to come in and fellowship with them. All this so that they can put aside their lukewarmness and be set on fire by the Spirit. It’s a powerful word. All of us struggle with our spiritual priority, and all of us fall short. But some of us can actually settle for a compromised, lukewarm relationship with the Lord that needs to change. And He’s the only One who can. Can you hear Him knocking at your door?

Lord, we open the door of our lives. Come in and set us on fire with Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name.
