"Believe"
There but by the grace of God,
At a gallop could have gone,
In fact I did a lot of times,
Because I lived so wrong.
But I am thankful that today,
The Good Lord reined me in,
Now I want to do His will,
And avoid the sin.
Sure, I still can go off track,
When selfishness takes hold,
But I will tell you, make it plain,
That old life left me cold.
And it wasn’t threat of hellfire,
Though I believe in hell,
But the love that saves and heals,
And I am glad to tell,
That the grace He died to give,
At last I have received,
It started when I turned to Him,
With all my heart believed.
Believed on Jesus Christ the Lord,
Surrendered, no reserve,
And He came in just like He said,
Got what I don’t deserve.
But that’s the miracle of grace,
It’s free to one and all,
I’m thankful for that special day,
I heard the Master’s call.
“That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9, NIV)
The simplicity of God’s good news makes it challenging for some people. That is because we receive salvation by faith and not by trying to earn or do something to deserve it. The concept of grace sometimes throws people because they’ve never really experienced it. But that makes it even more wonderful when they do. The believe that triggers salvation is trust coupled by surrender. That’s why it’s something that happens deep within our hearts and it’s also something we confess with our mouths. It is the greatest miracle of all.
Lord, help us to believe and confess, in Jesus’ name.
