"Bettin' Man"
If I was a bettin’ man,
I think my cash would go,
On those who love the cowboy way,
Because I think they know,
The difference between right and wrong,
Try to do just what they say,
Don’t put off till tomorrow,
What should be done today.
Might be they make their livin’,
A tendin’ those old cows,
Or maybe doing other jobs,
But still cowboy up somehow.
And, no, there is no virtue,
Apart from God’s good grace,
And just being a cowboy,
Won’t help you win that race.
But when I think about it,
It’s what’s inside the heart,
If we’re honest and we’re humble,
That’s where grace has its start.
And if we trust in Jesus,
He promises to save,
And that’s the reason that He died,
And God salvation gave.
But the ones who understand,
Will give their lives to Him,
And all who do receive the gift,
And He will gather in.
And I still love the cowboy way,
And thank God for that start,
But thankful even more to say,
That Christ is in my heart.
“For God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God… (Ephesians 2:8, NLT)
Salvation is God’s greatest gift! And the good news is that we cannot earn it, but it is based on God’s unmerited favor. If we are honest and humble, we will see our need for God’s remedy in Jesus Christ. As long as we think we can somehow save ourselves or earn our own righteousness, it’s a no go. So crucial to our belief, is admitting our need for what God has done. Putting our whole trust in Him is what enables us to cross over, receive Christ’s presence into our hearts, and lead a new life. But not until we admit we need Him. God graces the humble. Always…
Lord, help us fully trust Your grace to save, in Jesus’ name.
