"Blowing Wind"
A real cowboy knows that though the wind blows,
From weather we don’t take our cue,
But get the work done, in rain, snow or sun,
That’s just what those horseback boys do.
So go back inside, and from the wind hide,
We’d do it if ever we could,
But we’ll saddle up and crank up the truck,
And go get ‘er done like we should.
Cattle to feed and sick ones that need,
Doctorin’ far out there, alone,
You’ll find if you look, like readin’ a book,
You’ve learned all the signs that they’ve shown.
The life’s not for some, but if you do come,
Remember your slicker to bring,
Pull down that old hat, your leggins all that,
That wind will make jingle bobs sing.
And when we are through, here’s what we do,
With the horses unsaddled and fed,
Thankful that we, still cowboys can be,
Wind blowing in dreams through our head.
The wind is a friend, who’s been there and then,
Comes back around without fail,
And out there you’ll find, least most of the time,
It blows as you go down life’s trail.
“The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it i going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.” (John 3:8, NLT)
When Jesus spoke to Nicodemus about the second birth, He used the mysterious movement of the wind as a comparison. You can’t see the wind, only its effect. You can hear it and feel it, but you don’t know where it came from or where it is going. There is something wild, free and uncontrollable about the wind. But the Jesus said that being born a second time by the power of God’s Spirit is as unexplainable as that. The miraculous, mysterious work of God in our hearts is something indescribable indeed. We know it’s real, we see and feel the effect of it, but we can fully comprehend it. It’s a miraculous mystery of God’s powerful presence in our lives.
Lord, help us embrace the miraculous mystery of Your presence, in Jesus’ name.
