"Buckin'"
I didn’t know he’d do it,
When I pulled that cinch up tight,
I never saw him clue it,
Thought all would be all right.
But down the trail he showed me,
Just what he had in mind,
When he bucked and tried to throw me,
And my seat I tried to find.
I was clawing for the leather,
And looking for a grip,
But wasn’t sure if whether,
I could ride him through this trip.
And just when I was falling,
And thought I’d ride no more,
His bucking fit forestalling,
He calmed, just like before.
And I guess I could take credit,
For riding rough that day,
But my pride I’d best not let it,
Brag on myself that way.
‘Cause truth is he stopped bucking,
Right before I fell,
So that was just good lucking,
If that whole truth I tell.
I didn’t know he’d do it,
When I pulled the cinch up tight,
But thank the Lord rode through it,
And everything’s all right.
“If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord…” (1 Corinthians 1:31, NLT)
The world is full of boasters and braggarts and self-congratulatory fools. But when we encounter Jesus and live for Him, our egotism is nailed to His cross. We live to give Him glory and boast only about Him. And when we are enabled to accomplish something good, we know who deserves the real credit. Even if we work hard, sacrifice and pay the price to get things done, the Lord give us the air we breathe and the strength we expend. Every day is a gift from Him. Learning to live humbly and thankfully is what the Spirit empowers us to do.
Lord, teach us to boast only about You, in Jesus’ name.
