Far away, so far away,

They call to me,

I hear them say,

What I forgot from yesterday,

I hear them call, you see.

They come to me in cowboy song,

They sing to me,

To right the wrong,

Reminder of what I should be,

I hear them call, you see.

There once were men so strong and brave,

They shout to me,

From age-old grave,

Of battles won and victory,

I hear them call, you see.

If I can imitate those men,

They show so much to me,

From how they lived a way back then,

With honor and integrity,

I hear them call, you see.

It’s cowboy up and get ‘er done,

They lived for God and family,

Don’t give up till battle’s won,

And pray to keep our nation free,

I hear them call, you see.

The patriots and godly men,

They sacrificed for me,

Shed their blood, their pain back when,

Bought everything for me,

I hear them call, you see.

Above them all, the Savior true,

He died and rose for me,

His Spirit speaks to me His cue,

That pow’r can set me free,

I hear His call, you see.

People of valor have gone before us. We know their stories, recorded in God’s word and chronicled by historians who tell us what happened. Our predecessors accomplished amazing things, and serve as a testimony of what God can do, for and through people. We should always remember that they were just like us, with problems, challenges, failures and weaknesses. Yet by God’s grace and their availability to His plan, great things happened. Don’t fall prey to small thinking. God does the impossible with people no one else would pick, and that includes us! Let what others have done inspire and encourage you to live for God’s highest and best.

Lord, help us to follow the example of those who have gone before and answer Your call in our lives, in Jesus’ name.
