"Coming"
When I’d see ‘em coming,
Amidst a cloud of dust,
I’d run outside to meet ‘em,
I guess they thought I must,
Be really sad and lonely,
In the country on our place,
But that is not the reason,
I was glad to see their face.
I just was so excited,
To have people come and see,
That home place in the country,
It meant so much to me.
We’d call up all the horses,
The cattle in plain view,
People seemed to love it,
It’s what we’d always do.
Sometimes a watermelon,
Or homemade peach ice cream,
Sometime folks stayed for supper,
Mom’s food was like a dream.
And oft I think about it,
The welcome that we’d give,
It’s one of my best memories,
Of how we used to live.
Now that I’m an older man,
The news we see Is bad,
Though it’s often tragic,
You know I am not sad.
That’s ‘cause the Lord is coming,
I hope I live to see,
The splitting of the eastern sky,
Oh, what a day to be.
Welcome! Maranatha!
Hallelujah, He returns!
To keep His every promise,
As all the dross He burns.
Can’t wait to see Him coming,
In clouds up in the sky,
The horsemen of the Savior,
And no more tears to cry.
“For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16,NIV)
We as Jesus followers look forward to the coming of Jesus. When I was a child and heard preachers talk about it, it threatened me. I felt afraid of God’s judgment and that I would be left behind. But I have completely gotten over any of those emotions. All I feel now is extreme excitement about the possibility that Jesus might come again before I die. That would truly be wonderful! If not, I’ll get in on those who are raised first. Even so, come Lord Jesus!
Lord, we look forward to the day when we will welcome Your return, in Jesus’ name.
