"Cowboy Up"
I’ve heard a lot of people say,
Cowboy up, it made my day,
‘Cause I knew the words they sent,
Were something like encouragement.
But it’s taken time to feel that way,
For cowboy up to be okay,
And that’s because it used to mean,
Something reckless, and what I’ve seen,
Could make your old heart miss a beat,
Hands all sweaty, temp retreat,
Some snorty horse or wild bovine,
Posed a threat to life and life.
But plunge ahead and don’t go slow,
Whoop and spur, act like you know,
What you’re doing when you don’t,
Give a try or else you won’t,
Know the edge of wild and free,
I guess when young, you want to be,
But now more tenured, I’m okay,
With a slower pace all day.
And one more thing I want to say,
When I hear cowboy up today,
And that’s rise up and do God’s will,
Up’s the way to heaven still.
So, cowboy up, boys, get ‘er done,
Uncoil that twine and have some fun,
But remember that the day will come,
When cowboy up will not mean run.
“So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing…” (1 Thessalonians 5:11, NLT)
Encouragement is an essential component of human motivation. Whether giving or receiving it, helping others find and flourish in the life God intends is both an honor and responsibility. People are dealing with depression, discouragement and a great deal of hopelessness. Christians should be the most positive people on earth because we have the best news on earth. Cowboy up!
Lord, help us encourage one another, in Jesus’ name.
