"Cowboy Way"
There’s a way we ride our horses,
There’s a way we mend the fence,
There’s a way we doctor cattle,
We’ve done it way back since.
There’s a way we speak to Momma,
There’s a way we honor Dad,
There’s a way that we appreciate,
All the things we’ve had.
There’s a way we work and labor,
There’s a way we want to play,
There’s a way we go to worship,
And how we choose to pray.
There’s a way we help our neighbors,
There’s a way that we forgive,
There’s a way we bear our burdens,
By God’s grace choose to live.
There’s a way we pledge allegiance,
There’s a way that we salute,
There’s a way we love our country,
And those who don’t we boot.
There’s a way we raise our children,
There’s a way that they behave,
There’s a way we spend our money,
There’s a way our money save.
There’s a way we think is better,
it’s called the cowboy way,
And you don’t have to do it,
Or think it should hold sway.
But one thing about it, brother,
When you come to your last day,
Just hope that you have what it takes,
With what God has to say.
‘Cause in the end what matters,
Is that Jesus is the way,
I’m thankful many cowboys,
Will stand up and will say,
That He is Lord and Savior,
Died to save us all,
And some will have the privilege,
To cowboy up with y’all.
For when it comes down to it,
The real, true cowboy way,
Is based on Christ the Savior,
And if He came today,
We’re ready and we’re working,
To do His will each day,
And by the Spirit’s power,
To live the cowboy way.
“Jesus told him, ‘I am the way…’” (John 14:6, NLT)
Jesus comforted His disciples as He prepared them for His death on the cross and ultimate return to the Father. He encouraged them to trust in Him, and in the heavenly home He was going to prepare for them. He then made a clear but controversial claim. He say that He was the way, the truth, and the life, and was the exclusive way to the Father. Amazing, isn’t it? Some are offended by this claim, insisting there are many ways to God and all equally adequate. But that is not what Jesus said. He claimed to be the only way to the Father. Do you think he was right? If He was wrong and knew it, then He is a liar and not to be taken seriously. If He was wrong, but believed He was the way to the Father, He was deranged and not to be taken seriously. The only other option is that He really is the way the Father, and God has made it simple for all of us. Jesus is the way.
Lord, help us recognize and promote the way to others, in Jesus’ name.
