"Daddy"
He said to call Him Daddy,
Though seems there are but few,
Who feel that they can do it,
With the Spirit coming through.
No longer fear and slavery,
But adopted and brought home,
Abba means our Daddy,
Says we no more need to roam.
Do you get the meaning,
The closeness that it brings,
Or is it still a quandary,
When disappointment stings.
Reminding of your failures,
And all that you have lost,
Do you feel forgiven,
Or still bearing the cost,
Of what you did and didn’t do,
The grace makes all that right,
The Good Lord wants to welcome us,
And fill our hearts with light.
Perhaps your earthly father,
Gave you a big head-start,
In knowing God in heaven,
Deep within your heart.
Maybe your Dad had problems,
That he passed on to you,
And they became your handicap,
And something to get through.
Either way or mixture,
Our Dad in heaven knows,
When He extends His welcome,
The revelation grows,
That we can be accepted,
And we can be at peace,
When we know Abba, Father,
He gives us great release,
From every single burden,
And every hurt and wound,
And that’s why Jesus died for us,
And rose up from the tomb.
So we can know our Daddy,
Who meets our every need,
With Jesus as our Savior,
Hearts full of Kingdom seed.
The Dad who understands us,
With mercy loves us all,
Giver of all perfect gifts,
And listens when we call.
“So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when He adopted you as His own children. Now we call Him, ‘Abba, Father.’” (Romans 8:15, NLT)
How we address God matters. The fact that we are invited to know Him and be in an intimate relationship with Him is amazing! Jesus spoke of “our heavenly Father.” Paul explains that because the Holy Spirit has now been given to believers in Jesus, we can call God our Daddy. That’s what the word "Abba” means. God loves us so much, we are invited to use this term of endearment. But it’s more than that. We are invited to know God and relate to Him in this way. What a wonderful possibility! Praise the Lord.
Lord, help us know You as our Daddy, in Jesus’ name.
