"Daydream"

People used to daydream,

Do you remember when,

Their thoughts would go a-driftin’,

And then come back again.

And some of man’s great thinkers,

Learned to think that way,

Imagining all sorts of things,

When their minds could run and play.

Families used to sit and talk,

And stories they would tell,

It’s how so many things were learned,

I remember very well.

Listenin’ to my grandpa,

As he spoke of long ago,

I could see the things he talked about,

Just like a picture show.

Sometimes they’d sit and listen,

To some music being played,

And if somebody happened by,

They were happy if you stayed.

And, yes, they all worked very hard,

But somehow still could rest,

Spent time with one another,

I remember that the best.

And now it’s way too hectic,

To sit and do these things,

And with our phones and gizmos,

The whole world constant brings,

The news up to the second,

The latest thing to buy,

And lots of games and videos,

And it’s really hard to try,

To shut it down and step away,

We have to be in touch,

With everyone and everything,

It’s gotten way too much.

Maybe if we took a chance,

And maybe had a fast,

From everything that speeds things up,

And on the Good Lord cast,

All our cares and worries,

And all that gives us stress,

We might find out we like it,

And discover more is less.

So if I’m in a daydream,

Or a story tryin’ to hear,

Please don’t make me stop it,

Or bring my cell phone near.

I’ve probably put it away,

On purpose for a break,

So I can listen to the Lord,

And that effort make.

The daydreams and the music,

And the stories from our kin,

Take time to go back there,

And to the Lord like then.

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you…” (1 Peter 5:7, NLT)

We give attention to so many things, but worry and anxiety still weighs down the human heart. And the only real relief is found when we turn to Jesus. Peter counsels us to cast all our worries and all our cares on Him, for He cares for us. So true! Life was better when we took time for the Lord and each other. There is absolutely nothing to prevent us from doing that now. Turn off the noise, turn off the distractions, and turn off the tech. Turn to Jesus.

Lord, help us cast every care upon You, in Jesus’ name.
