"Dimensions"

Dimensions are the measure,

Of everything we build,

You’ll find them in the blueprint,

So finally they yield,

The structure and the dwelling,

That finishing we use,

And if they are not followed,

In all likelihood we lose.

But what are life’s dimensions,

And what shall be our guide,

When we lay the foundation,

Where later we reside.

I say that the Spirit,

Must show us God’s true way,

Based on that old Bible,

And what it has to say.

But I don’t mean a rule book,

With narrow laws and mean,

But boundaries that save us,

And keep us sane and clean.

But best of all dimensions,

That show us the great size,

The depth and length and height and width,

Of God’s big love surprise.

And when we plumb the power,

Of just what Christ has done,

It transcends all our thinking,

And ransomed everyone.

And if you face a mountain,

Dimensions tall and strong,

A tiny little mustard seed,

Of faith and it is gone.

Dimensions really matter,

And if we see them true,

There’s really nothing better,

It’s God real big through you.

“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is…” (Eph. 3:18, NLT)

How wide? Wide enough to include the broadest swipe of the brush. It can get all the tribes and every people group in its expanse. Jesus died for everybody. How long? Long enough to pursue and overtake the one who has run the farthest away. There is no one beyond His reach. Jesus is after everybody. How high? So high it touches heaven yet still stoops to lift up the fallen. Jesus lifts everybody who calls on His name. How deep? Deep enough to forgive the deepest failures, heal the deepest hurts, and restore the most hopeless situations. Jesus overcomes everything. Dimensions matter. Amen.

Lord, help us understand the dimensions of Your love, in Jesus’ name.
