"Doxa"

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost,

Here below and heavenly host,

O Lord, we love You more and most,

Our praise we give to You.

Whether gathered or alone,

Celebrate Your favor shone,

And to us Your love made known,

So faithful and so true.

We beat our chest and humbly see,

Say we’re unworthy but our plea,

Is Jesus’ blood, how can it be,

This love for us is great.

The risen Christ is our relief,

Though of sinners we are chief,

But all restored back from the thief,

On Christ’s return we wait.

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” (Psalm 150:6, NIV)

When we read the psalms of David, we are reading the thoughts of a man after God’s own heart. No matter what was happening in his life he came and poured out his heart to God. Sometimes it was a confession of sin and a plea for mercy. Sometimes it was a complaint about his enemies. But more times than not it was about giving God praise. David was a great praiser, and so should we learn to be. In the final verse of the final psalm he wrote that if we are breathing we should be praising. It’s what should be the salient characteristic of our lives and it will be the one thing we know we will carry with us from this life to the next. Life in a very real sense is simply rehearsal for heaven. Let’s get ready.

Lord, help us to praise You, in Jesus’ name.
