"Dream on the Range"

The grasses still are blowing,

And the sun’s rays brightly showing,

The trail they followed, oh so long ago.

And there’s a lot of trying,

And deep-down, sincere sighing,

For a way of life that few can ever know.

The far away that once was,

We dream and wonder because,

That cowboy life to us it seems so free.

More honestly assess it,

And accurately address it,

They may have dreamed of better ways to be.

Probably what’s truer,

Is there were whole lots fewer,

Thinkin’ ‘bout all this compared to us.

‘Cause mostly they were workin’,

And hard times never shirkin’,

Doing what each day required they must.

To us it seems romantic,

Escaping stress so frantic,

To ride the plains the way the cowboys did.

But they dreamed of survival,

Or just a safe arrival,

And nothing more than basic was there hid.

And, yes, I love that old scene,

When on the range he has been,

The cowboy rides away to setting sun.

And we can’t help but love it,

When push then comes to shove it,

A horse, a hat and handy old six-gun.

Don’t mean to disappoint you,

But God did not anoint you,

To retrieve something that was never lost.

Just live each day and season,

On purpose for God’s reason,

And cowboy up, no matter what the cost.

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every activity under heaven…” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NLT)

Some are always longing for something else. I get it. I lived that way for a very long time. But what each of us has to find is the path God has entrusted to us. He knows us best, and what it will take to make us happy. He promises that if we delight in Him, He will give us our hearts desires. That said, God moves seasonally in our lives, and each successive stage is built upon what went before. The Lord is perfect in His timing, and we can trust Him to lead us every step of the way. If you are unhappy with your life and wish you were doing something else, the best thing to do is seek the Lord and lay all that you feel and want on His altar. Then trust Him to give you what you need, in His timing.

Lord, lead us in every season of life, in Jesus’ name.
