"Dry"
There’s lots of dust a-blowin’,
And heat is in excess,
My pony’s done got lathered,
We have no time to rest.
‘Cause cattle need new pasture,
A brand new range to drink,
And cow boss says to move ‘em,
No one asked me what I think.
It’s times like these a cowboy,
Thinks of a wetter clime,
A place where that old rainfall,
Comes more than just sometime.
He even dreams of beaches,
A place to rest and fish,
Maybe in the tropics,
If he was to have his wish.
But then he thinks he’d better,
Think more about the stock,
‘Cause he just might ride past ‘em,
Behind some bush or rock.
Out there in the rangeland,
Where cattle make a living,
Twelve miles an hour on the steep,
And country’s unforgiving.
But no we wouldn’t trade it,
For flatter land and fair,
‘Cause we have learned to cowboy,
Up here and not down there.
But, Lord, if you are listening,
I ‘m asking straight and plain,
Lord, you know how dry it’s been,
Could You please send some rain?
“For I will pour water on the thirsty ground and send streams coursing through the parched earth. I will pour my Spirit into your descendants and my blessing on your children.” (Isaiah 44:3, The Message)
God made an ancient promise to Israel that He would bless their dry ground with rain, but even better, He would pour out His Spirit upon their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I’m sure they were glad to hear the prophet say it. Paul tells us every promise of God is ours to claim through Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20). Parts of the west have had lots of unexpected rain this year. Two years ago we got so much the Brazos River flooded. But last year it was exceptionally dry for us, and this year almost as bad. We are praying for rain, but more importantly, we are praying for a great out-pouring of the Holy Spirit. We believe the next great awakening will be the last before Christ returns, and our children, grandchildren and great-children will need God’s power as never before. Lord, rain on us, in Jesus’ name.
Lord, we ask for physical and spiritual rain, in Jesus’ name.
