"Faith Alive"

Faith alive will drop the weight,

And learn to persevere,

Looking unto Jesus Christ,

And overcomes all fear.

Faith alive will pack and go,

And not know where at all,

Let the Lord fill in the blank,

And just obey the call.

Faith alive will sacrifice,

When God makes clear we must,

Knowing God can raise the dead,

And that’s what makes us trust.

Faith alive goes overboard,

To walk upon the sea,

And says to that old mountain,

It’s gonna have to flee.

Faith alive will praise the Lord,

Though beaten and in jail,

And trust the Lord to do what’s best,

And knows He’ll never fail.

Faith alive will turn the cheek,

Forgive all who offend,

Cancel debt and let it go,

Get healing grace to mend.

Faith alive sees heaven’s door,

And knows that in the end,

To live is Christ and death is gain,

It’s how its always been.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” (Hebrews 12:1, NIV)

After faith is defined in Hebrews chapter eleven and a list is given of those who have pleased the Lord by faith and gone on to heaven, chapter twelve begins by comparing the life of faith to running a race. The points are powerful. Since we are surrounded by those who have already run their race and won, let us throw off every weight. The writer is speaking of anything that slows us down. When we’re intentional about this, the Lord will help us lighten up. Running with perseverance and staying focused on Jesus are absolutely necessary to the life of faith. Faith keeps on going when others quit, and never gets distracted from Jesus. It’s something to really think about.

Lord, help us run with perseverance, in Jesus’ name.
