"Faithing"

I tried back when I couldn’t,

And never thought I would,

Be more than expected,

Just never thought I could.

But if you’re thinking that you can,

It probably is true,

And if you’re thinking that you can’t,

You’re right about that, too.

So much of all that we attempt,

Is not about what is,

But more about our mental state,

And let me tell you this,

In heaven and on earth below,

Faith is what we need,

The necessary factor,

Before we can proceed.

What others think impossible,

Is not beyond our reach,

But mental muscle wins the day,

And something we should teach.

Jesus said a mustard seed,

Would move a mountain sure,

And those whose heart is filled with it,

Will have strength to endure.

Every worthy project,

That humans plan and do,

Happens in somebody’s mind,

Before it can come true.

The dream that someone carries,

Is a destiny in seed,

Nurtured by believing,

Designed to meet a need.

And then when God’s own timing,

Calls forth someone to act,

The dream is set in motion,

And nothing holds it back.

What are you thinking, brother,

‘Bout what you’re gonna do,

Believe that God is leading,

Your dream will soon come true.

“I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’” (Matthew 17:20, NIV)

The fellow who brought his troubled boy to Jesus was desperate, no doubt. Can you imagine his disappointment when Jesus was unavailable and His disciples could not help the child? His faith must have taken a beating. But when Jesus came down from the mountain He was able to heal the man’s son. Afterward the disciples asked why they weren’t able to do it. Jesus said it was because of their unbelief. He then went on to talk about the mustard seed-sized faith that could move a mountain. The context, you see, was all about driving out evil and helping someone get healed. Every God-given dream will be about helping somebody. It will take faith to do it, but it doesn’t take that much, according to Jesus. Nothing will be impossible.

Lord, help us to believe, in Jesus’ name.
