"Fearless"
When we were workin’ cattle,
I’ll admit I was afraid,
Sometime when we were sortin’,
It was on the fence I stayed.
But Dad would not allow it,
And really in the end,
I learned to work wild cattle,
‘Cause I was more afraid of him.
I’ve ridden buckin’ horses,
And sometimes hit the ground,
It can really make you watchy,
But this is what I’ve found,
If you let the fear control you,
It can hinder when you ride,
It’s better just to face it,
Than to find a hole to hide.
But from fear and doubt and worry,
Jesus died to set us free,
If we cast on Him our every care,
He’ll show us how to be,
At peace with all that threatens,
It will rule our hearts and minds,
Simply trusting Jesu,
With every fear, all kinds.
And He’ll cast out our worry,
His love trumps what disturbs,
And always will secure us,
Our panic button curbs.
It’s sweet to trust in Jesus,
Like the words in that old song,
And if we really do it,
Ain’t no way we can go wrong.
And when old fear comes knockin’,
Jesus goes right to the door,
The Lord will send it packin’,
‘Cause it don’t live here anymore.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:7)
We inevitably have to deal with things that try to crowd us into being scared. Fear is a bully and a thief. It steal energy, opportunity and identity. We are called and empowered to overcome it. The Holy Spirit gives us the power, the love and the discipline to confront fear head-on and cast it out. We cannot live without dealing with fear, but we can overcome it, in Jesus’ name.
Lord, help us cast out fear, in Jesus’ name.
