"Free"
Gallant men laid down their lives,
And many died so we,
Could have the blessings we enjoy,
And live with liberty.
Naïve to think so otherwise,
‘Cause freedom is not free,
The cost requires great sacrifice,
And it will always be.
The same is true with heaven’s gain,
No one could pass the test,
The separation caused by sin,
With binding chains distressed.
So we needed a champion,
A hero bold who came,
To do what no one else could do,
And Jesus is His name.
No chasm deep He cannot bridge,
No hurt He cannot heal,
No chains He cannot break apart,
His love and power so real.
It’s all about His sacrifice,
That bought our freedom sweet,
And, oh, the price He gladly paid,
Where grace and judgment meet.
And now we hear His calling,
To go in Jesus’ name,
Share and show His sacrifice,
And point them to God’s claim.
To daily take up our own cross,
And gladly count the cost,
Of all it means to follow Him,
And reach out to the lost.
“For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17, NLT)
The Spirit uniquely lives within the body of believers. Our bodies are called His temple, and the life of Jesus fills and overflows us. When Paul describes the Spirit’s indwelling power, he says that the Spirit brings freedom. This does not mean that those with God’s Spirit are free to do anything they want. It means they are free to do God’s will and become like Jesus. In fact He changes us from the inside-out, so that we become more and more like the Lord. That’s what real freedom is about, and it was bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus. The Spirit delivers all the benefits that Jesus died to give us.
Lord, let Your Spirit set us free, in Jesus’ name.
