"Freedom"
Freedom can be fragile,
But seems to be quite agile,
When dodging those who try to shoot it down.
The tyrants with their meanness,
Deliver only leanness,
Cannot compete when freedom's hopes abound.
Whether in this hemisphere,
Close at hand, both far and near,
Freedom’s spark lies in the human heart.
No matter where you come from,
The down deep beat of that drum,
Calls us to break every chain apart.
And not just with the government,
Campaigns, elections how they went,
But something that we know is deeper still.
The Bible says the Son sets free,
And those He does will always be,
And we believe it is the Father’s will.
Free indeed and free at last,
From sin and hurt and all our past,
Free to live and live beyond the grave.
Free from fear of anything,
When we choose to make Him King,
Free because we trust the Lord to save.
All men long to find it,
And I write to remind it,
The goal and purpose of all humankind,
Is know the Lord of freedom,
And then help others get some,
It’s always the best thing that we can find.
“So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free…” (John 8:36, NLT)
We enjoy great freedom in America. But our freedoms should never be taken for granted. There are some who do not agree with the notion that all are created equal and that freedom is a divine gift. We are very fortunate that enough people love political freedom in America to preserve it so far. But even if our political freedom is lost, there is a deeper freedom that God gives us through Jesus Christ that is eternal. People have found it and shared it with others even when their government killed them for doing it. The spiritual cause of freedom cannot be stopped. It is God’s agenda, and though not always apparent, His freedom prevails.
Lord, set us free, in Jesus’ name.
