"God-Moments"

There are moments as we travel,

Along life’s winding way,

That let us see the face of God,

It happens every day.

But I don’t always see Him,

And I’m pretty sure just why,

I’m always in a hurry,

And often pass on by.

George Strait sang about it,

“I saw God today,”

It is one of my favorites,

To hear it when they play.

“I’ve been to church,”

“I’ve read the Book,”

“I know He’s there,”

“But I don’t look…”

I hate to admit it,

So many times that’s me,

He’s there and yes, I know it,

But often I don’t see.

The sunrise and the sunset,

The laughter of a child,

The beauty of a favor,

One goes the extra mile.

The greening of the pasture,

The smell of fresh-cut hay,

The job well done and after,

We hear somebody pray.

The horses as they’re feeding,

The red-tailed hawk on wing,

The hoot owl when he’s hooting,

The song-birds as they sing.

The blue sky in the morning,

And the indigo at night,

The sun and moon and all the stars,

As they give off their light.

 The sweetness in the knowing,

That someone does love me,

The hugs and smiles and kisses,

Show God’s been good to me.

It’s God in flowers blooming,

In waves upon the shore,

In times of dance and laughter,

And there in so much more.

When people lift their voices,

In sincere thanks and praise,

Their words are inspiration,

To help me fill my days,

With better recognition,

Of moments Jesus gives,

My guess, they really matter,

And help us as we live.

In tune with the Spirit,

He gives us eyes to see,

And ears to hear the music,

That plays for you and me.

And then when life is over,

The joys come rushing back,

And in the arms of Jesus,

There’s nothing that we lack.

Yes seize, enjoy the blessing,

God-moments we recall,

Be ready when they happen,

‘Cause He’s our all in all.

“The heavens declare the glory of God. The skies display His craftsmanship.” (Ps. 19:1, NLT)

God reveals Himself constantly, and one of the most obvious ways is through His creation. It all points to Him, as well as so many moments in life that reveal His presence and His love. A men’s group I was a part of for several years always made time for them to share “God-moments.” They would stand up and describe times when the Lord manifested Himself in their daily lives. They were often simple, but powerful! It helped all of us to be more aware of God’s constant presence in our lives. So, here’s one I will never forget. A friend called me to go with him to do an intervention with his friend who was on drugs. He asked me to go and simply pray that the friend would agree to enter rehab. When we got there the guys place was a wreck and so was he. As the others talked to him, I prayed, but it didn’t look like he would agree to go to rehab. Then I looked down and saw a framed picture of a teenage girl I recognized. I asked him what connection he had with her, and she was his daughter. I told him I had been with her several weeks before at a youth camp, and she came forward and asked for prayer for her Dad who was on drugs. We had prayed together for him. It was a God-moment, no doubt. He went to rehab and stayed sober for another decade before dying and going to heaven. Look. Listen. He’s there.

Lord, raise our awareness of every God-moment You give us, in Jesus’ name.
