"Going"

If you hear that soon I’m going,

And you find out that it’s true,

Better not to shed a tear,

Or let it make you blue.

I’ve got some awesome children,

And seen ‘em make a life,

And all those sweet grand-babies,

Full of love and light.

I’ve preached and taught the Bible,

I’ve pastored and I’ve led,

I’ve married and I’ve baptized,

And I’ve funeralized the dead.

I’ve known the Holy Spirit,

I’ve seen His work and ways,

He’s brought me through some sad times,

And given joyful days.

I’ve ridden pretty horses,

I’ve chased a cow or two,

I’ve written several poems,

And some I think will do.

And no, I don’t feel sickly,

Old heart is beatin’ good,

But better say just what you feel,

Than wait and wish you could.

So read this one I’m writing,

Before I get life done,

When still alive and kickin’,

In view the setting sun.

And after, know I’m happy,

Crossed over to the place,

Where Jesus says He’ll greet me,

When I have run my race.

“I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful…” (2 Tim. 4:7, NLT)

The end of the race is coming but we don’t know when. Life will end, as sure as it had a beginning. And then what? According to scripture we go into God’s presence or not. What about people who haven’t heard about Jesus? Beside the point. You have. We have. What have we done with the news? Have we accepted Him, surrendered to Him, lived for Him? Is our faith real, or superficial? If we believe we have no need to fear. In fact He says His love will expel all fear. We can be fully assured by His Spirit that we are God’s children and heirs of eternal life. How did God make you sure? When our earthly race comes to an end we can finish well, in Jesus’ name.

Lord, help us finish, in Jesus’ name.
