"His Grandma"

 My little grandson asked me,

Why is the sky so blue,

I said because his Grandma,

Had blue eyes like that, too.

And God took Grandma’s color,

And splashed it ‘cross the sky,

And he just looked up at me,

As if to say, that’s why.

My little grandson asked me,

Why is the grass so green,

I said because his Grandma,

Said how it should be seen.

And God took her opinion,

And did it just that way,

Made it green as green can be,

Knew it would be okay.

My little grandson asked me,

Why do the horses run,

I said because his Grandma,

Thought they should have some fun.

And God knew that they’d like it,

If He gave to them that speed,

And also that your Grandma,

Knew the fun they’d need.

My little grandson asked me,

How his Grandma knew so much,

I said she has the Spirit,

And knows His constant touch.

My little grandson asked me,

Why did Jesus have to die,

I said so everybody,

Could live with Him on high.

And even pretty Grandma,

And his old Grandpa, too,

Needed Him to do it,

To save from sins, it’s true.

And then my little grandson,

On my lap fell fast asleep,

Right beside his Grandma,

Whose love I plan to keep.

And if you ever wonder,

About all these things, too,

I’ll tell you this old Grandpa,

Is quite sure that they are true.

“This promise is for you, to your children, and to those who are far away- all who have been called by the Lord our God…” (Acts 2:39, NLT)

On the day of Pentecost the first believers were empowered by the Holy Spirit. With the Spirit filling him, Simon Peter delivered the message of Jesus’ death and resurrection. He called the people to repent, believe and be baptized in water so that the Holy Spirit could change their lives and empower them, too. Then he added these words about our children and those who are far away. What a beautiful statement! This is not just for you, he was saying, but for your kids and their kids and even those who are distant- historically, geographically, and spiritually. People of the present day are included in this promise, because it has such far-reaching scope. But even better, so are our children and grandchildren. Tell them.

Lord, help us share Your Good News with our children and grandchildren, in Jesus’ name.
