"Hope and Pray"

Might come a day,

When all will say,

The cowboy way is gone.

All roads then paved,

All faces shaved,

Might not take too long.

Some have said,

That day they’d dread,

Because so sad would be.

The cow folk there,

So strong, I swear,

The last ones to live free.

Have you seen,

The cities mean,

And people in a rush.

Don’t seem to care,

It’s hard to bear,

So loud and cannot hush.

The noise and strife,

Of city life,

Sometimes you wonder why.

It’s good for some,

But I’d just run,

To space and land and sky.

But it is more,

Than your home shore,

And where you hang your hat.

A way to live,

And standards give,

Morality’s format.

Like do your job,

And never rob,

The brand you’re working for.

Live, talk true,

With what you do,

And serve, not less, but more.

The golden rule,

Might not be cool,

In this new culture’s eyes.

Still holds true,

It’s what we do,

At least it’s what we try.

I hope and pray,

The cowboy way,

We never will let go.

This country’s need,

And freedom’s seed,

It’s what the wise will know.

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free…” (John 8:32, NLT)

Jesus spoke truth and claimed to be the truth personified. He said that truth alone would make people free. The people He spoke these words to argued with Him. When He spoke of truth-inspired freedom, they rejected His claims. Why? They said that what Jesus said did not apply to them because they were already free. They were deceived about their condition. Many people are. Their greatest problem is that they don’t think they have one. Deception is the enemy of the truth and the freedom it brings. The cowboy way is a code of conduct based upon truth and freedom. So is America, and every good thing we believe. And ultimately, the Good News of Jesus Christ, which alone can save, is the answer for every person. Never take for granted the truth, and the freedom it brings.

Lord, set us free with You truth, in Jesus’ name.
