"Horseback"

One thing that I have noticed,

When folks know I love to ride,

They will often tell me,

Their story they’ll confide.

Of how when as a youngster,

They climbed upon a horse,

And then some trauma happened,

That frightened them of course.

The horse ran plumb away with them,

Or maybe tried to buck,

Might have laid down in some water,

Or some other real bad luck.

And since then they’ve never,

Got on a horse again,

But wanted to explain it,

I agree with them and then,

I rarely ever say it,

But I think it really loud,

Surprised they cannot hear me,

But fear has got ‘em cowed.

But runaways, I’ve had ‘em,

They’ve bucked and sometimes fell,

I’ve had ‘em do all sorts of things,

I can’t begin to tell.

But it never once occurred to me,

That that was my last trip,

In fact I’m always thinkin’ ‘bout,

The next time I can slip,

Away to catch my pony,

Get saddled up and go,

Might be after cattle,

Or just trailin’ by you know.

They said the outside of a horse,

Is good for your insides,

And I’ve found it to be true,

From all my many rides.

I realize the day may come,

When I no more can go,

But horseback till I breathe my last,

Would be just fine you know.

Some fell off and that was it,

But I just got back on,

And prolly that’s just what I’ll do,

Till Jesus calls me home.

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” (Colossians 3:17, NIV)

Whatever we do or say should have the divine brand on it. That doesn’t mean we work at being “religious” people. In fact it’s not about anything external at all. It simply means that whatever we’re doing we operate from the inside-out and in Jesus’ name. We do it with His blessing and surrendered to His control. We don’t have to love doing the same things at all. God loves diversity. But what is necessary is that God is our priority and everything is surrendered intentionally to Him.

Lord, help us honor You with everything we do or say, in Jesus’ name.
