"I See"

There in early morning,

Sometimes I think I see,

In the misty vapors,

A glimpse of used to be.

Old high-horned a-frame saddles,

A-movin’ through the mist,

On Texas style cow ponies,

And quirts in every fist.

As cowboys. drive those longhorns,

Out of yesterday,

Driftin’ up the distant trail,

I hear them softly say,

Get up, get up, hey dogies,

Go on now, get along,

Sometimes in a whisper,

And then it’s with a song.

Just a glimpse in morning,

Then the sun shines through,

Burns away what’s foggy,

And they go with it, too.

Did I really see ‘em,

Oh well, I don’t know,

May be imagination,

While drinkin’ coffee slow.

They say seein’ is believin’,

But I don’t think that’s true,

In fact it’s just the opposite,

Believe first, then you do.

And that’s how faith unleashes,

What is otherwise unseen,

Provides an open avenue,

For things that might have been.

I sometimes see old cowboys,

They’re dead and gone away,

They seem alive and real to me,

In spite of what folks say.

“Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see…” (Heb. 11:1)

Sometimes we see things by faith that we cannot otherwise see. We see it before it actually happens, but we know it’s true. Mind games? No, not at all. In fact all our perceptions of reality hinge upon our expectations. How many times have we missed seeing something because it was unexpected? It flew past as if it were invisible. Others saw it but we couldn’t. If that can happen with physical reality, how much more so spiritual reality. Everything we believe about time and eternity is based upon something we cannot see physically or prove scientifically. Faith is when we suspend our rationale expectation, become unfettered to the laws of physics, and believe the impossible. A virgin has a baby, sick bodies are healed, dead bodies are raised, and the ultimate miracle, a crucified, dead, and buried man comes back to life. These are impossibilities. Yet we believe, but only because we accept their truth by faith. When we do, life changes, and becomes the visible testimony to the invisible reality of salvation. Faith up. It’s the best way to live.

Lord, strengthen our faith, in Jesus’ name.
