"It's Over"

Christmas presents opened,

All things cleared away,

Delicious food is eaten,

Leftovers wrapped okay.

Most folks have packed up to leave,

Some already gone,

And playing on the radio,

One last Christmas song.

And some take down the Christmas tree,

Or they’ll do it very soon,

And we’ll get back to normal,

And sing the same old tune.

But some of us get wistful,

That it’s over for the year,

And some go even lower,

And will shed a sad, old tear.

‘Cause we hate that it is over,

We held onto it tight,

But then it comes and goes again,

Just one day and night.

So what to do about it,

When you feel this way,

The joy and fun of Christmas,

We cannot make it stay.

And yet there is an answer,

It is found in God’s Good Book,

And if you feel some sadness,

It pays to take a look.

‘Cause God knows all our feelin’s,

Knows what and why we feel,

And He provides the answer,

And His solution’s real.

And it’s simply Jesus,

Not in a manger low,

But deep down in our hearts, you see,

With all His peace, you know.

The fact is every moment,

His presence is our stay,

Lord of every season,

And every single day.

Lord of our emotions,

Of all our highs and lows,

Steady by the Spirit,

His presence with us goes.

Transcending all the good times,

And when the times are bad,

He alone can satisfy,

And lift us when we’re sad.

The Christmas celebration,

May be done this year,

But ‘cause Jesus fills us,

And He is constant near,

We claim the life abundant,

And grace to find the way,

Not just to endure it,

But with thankfulness each day.

“But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God…” (John 1:12, NLT)

For the Gospel of John, the Christmas story does not speak of a virgin birth or shepherds or angels or Magi. John goes back before the creation of the world and speaks of Jesus as the eternal, living Word of God through whom and for whom everything was made. Then He speaks of the Word becoming human, taking on flesh, and bringing God’s light to the world as never before. But here’s the main point: it’s how we respond to the Word that matters. Others didn’t recognize or receive Him. But if we do, everything changes for time and eternity. We are reborn spiritually and given to the right to become children of God. The bottom line is that Christmas is not so much an event to celebrate as it is a Savior to receive. And He becomes the Lord of every season.

Lord, help us to believe and receive You with all our hearts, in Jesus’ name.
