"Legacy"
So once along the journey,
And closer to the end,
You realize that there’s less to go,
Than when you hit begin.
And no, you are not scared,
‘Cause God is in control,
Of how long your life is,
And how many years you roll.
But then you get to thinkin’,
About the things you’ve done,
And who your life impacted,
And if you served the One,
Who died and rose up for you,
And opened every door,
So you could live forever,
On heaven’s happy shore.
Who did you tell of Jesus?
What is your legacy?
Is there one who says it,
Your words sure saved me.
Well, if there is nobody,
No fruit you recognize,
It just means you get busy,
In love evangelize.
‘Cause someone will go with you,
If you’ll give an invite,
You might be surprised when,
They step into the light.
So don’t delay, my brother,
Don’t wait, my sister, too,
There are those a-waiting,
For someone just like you.
“…as though God is pleading through us…” (2 Cor. 5:20, NKJV)
God is pleading through us. What a thought! This means a number of things. One is that He lives within us. When we turn from self-rule and embrace Jesus as Lord and Savior, His Spirit comes to live inside us. This is a unique spiritual transaction and non-negotiable if we are to see or enter God’s Kingdom. Second, the Spirit living within us wants to fill and control our lives. When He does, the life of Jesus is manifested through us. Third, God speaks through us to lead others to Himself. One of the great honors of the Christian life is partnering with God on reconciling people to Himself. Jesus died and was raised to accomplish it, but someone has to serve as a representative, an ambassador, who will share who He is, what He has done, and what He offers. The spiritual legacy created by this role is one that has eternal reward and temporal fulfillment.
Lord, use us, in Jesus’ name.
