"Little Boy Dream"

Little boys with joys and toys,

Live life without a care,

Grown-up pain and adult drain,

Cannot touch them there.

They play you see with fantasy,

And say just what they’ll be,

When they grow up, no more a pup,

We smile and then agree.

‘Cause it’s okay to dream we say,

About what we will do,

Don’t feel the need to kill the seed,

That’s planted, might come true.

My circle wide, I could not hide,

I loved the cowboy way,

Some thought nonsense, respect the fence,

That’s foolishness they’d say.

A childish dream to them it seemed,

And sometimes I thought, too,

But spur and bit would never quit,

And finally came true.

Full-grown man by grace I am,

God lifts my every care,

A horseback now, God’s gift somehow,

And answer to my prayer.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights…” (James 1:17, NIV)

If all God ever gave to us was eternal life that would be enough. But He also provides earthly blessings of all kinds. There are people who view God as a miserly, angry monarch that grudgingly answers prayer because He must keep His promises. But this is a very distorted view. God delights in blessing His children, and every good gift originates with Him.

Lord, help us to thankfully celebrate everything You give us, in Jesus’ name.
