"Low"
Been very low and stayed there,
For oh, so very long,
Got to the edge of nowhere,
And knew it was so wrong.
But couldn’t pull myself out,
No matter how I tried,
Folks thought I should get over,
But I just sat and sighed.
Depression is no picnic,
It really tears you down,
Feeling deeply hopeless,
Each time it came around.
And dreading it would happen,
With prayers it never will,
And faith gives us a victory,
When life has been downhill.
Truth is, the grace that heals us,
And helps us make things right,
Can lead us out of darkness,
And right into the light.
And He’ll help us believe it,
Even when we don’t,
And grace to soon relieve it,
Though we might think He won’t.
‘Cause when depression rules us,
We’re bogged with what we think,
But I can tell you, brother,
When you are on the brink,
That’s right where God will meet you,
And engulf you with His love,
Lets you know you’re worth loving,
Gives value from above.
So if you’re down, my brother,
If down is up for you,
I’m telling you, my sister,
Something you know is true.
He lifts us from the miry pit,
Our courage to renew,
His promise makes the difference,
Grace tailored just for you.
“He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and the mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand…” (Psalm 40:2, NIV)
Many of us have fought the demons of depression for a long time. We hate the way it makes us feel, and we dread the prospect of sliding down into those feelings again. Once there, our greatest fear is that we will never feel better. But that’s a big lie, and it’s straight from the devil. Yes, if we need a prescription God will use it. And counseling from a qualified Christian counselor can be very beneficial. But God wants all of us to know that His grace is tailor-made for every one of His children, and He will give us what we need to survive and thrive. Believe it.
