"Miracle"

I was asking for a miracle,

Said, Lord, change everything,

But I will tell you what I learned,

He decided not to bring,

The miracle I asked for,

Had something else in mind,

He focused on just changing me,

And helping me to find,

The grace that He was giving,

When the answer was a “no,”

I argued that I needed it,

But His plan was to show,

That sometimes what you ask for,

Isn’t really what you need,

Instead the miracle of grace,

Is there to plant a seed,

For a blessed harvest,

Of seeing far beyond,

The urgent and immediate,

And prayer’s no magic wand.

Yes, I asked for a miracle,

It’s all that I could see,

He gave a different miracle,

The grace to transform me.

“Each time He said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness…’” (2 Corinthians 12:9, NLT)

Paul was asking God to deliver him from his “thorn in the flesh.” We don’t know what the thorn was, but Paul wanted God to rid him of it. He was praying for a miracle. But God said He would give Paul grace to deal with the thorn. This was not the answer Paul wanted, but it was ultimately God’s answer. The Lord knows what we need and when. We may be asking the Lord for a miracle in full faith. There is nothing wrong in the asking. But the Lord may answer a different way. The miracle may be the grace ot overcome the adversity rather than remove it. Thank God there is always grace!

Lord, help us to receive the grace You want to give us, in Jesus’ name.
