"Miss It"
When the presents all are opened,
And the Christmas dinner’s done,
And the folks pack up and leave us,
All the Christmas carols sung.
When the tree is at the curbside,
Decorations stored away,
The old year now is winding down,
Soon we’ll have a new year’s day.
I look out at my horses,
They graze and move the same,
They aren’t aware of Christmas,
Or the year that soon will change.
For them it’s just another day,
Of them I take good care,
Three are good ranch geldings,
And one young colt and mare.
Will I be like my horses,
The time just steady goes,
Or will I take a pause and pray,
Seek Him for what He knows.
The seasons pass so quickly,
And yet a new year’s here,
I don’t want to someday look,
With my heart filled with fear,
That I missed what God was planning,
Not because I ran away,
But simply was too dull to see,
And my attention pay.
Asleep, though waking through the days,
That turned to decades, too,
And then look up and finally find,
My earthly days are through.
God, don’t let me do it,
If Spirit-filled I can,
Live each season, led by You.
With Your help find Your plan.
“But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love…” (1 Thessalonians 5:8, NLT)
Asleep at the wheel…that is the condition of many Christians. They’re saved and love the Lord. They go to church and try to live right. But they’re dull to the opportunity of ministry given by the Spirit’s leadership. They are not running from God, just too dull to hear the Spirit speak to them. Sound familiar? I have been there far too many times, and as a result, missed many moments of blessing. What to do? Wake up! Seek the Lord intentionally about being totally available to Him, and filled with the Holy Spirit. The coming new year offers new possibilities. Let’s make the most of them!
Lord, wake us up to Your highest and best, in Jesus’ name.
