"Moon"
Oh, the moon, did you see the moon,
Rode horseback ‘neath its glow,
I have to say I sat so long,
My horse urged me to go.
It sailed so high in the Texas sky,
But seemed so very near,
I could spur and hop onto it,
From the caprock right up here.
And don’t you know the moon I saw,
Was more than just the moon,
Full and bright as day it seemed,
And called me to commune,
With all the creatures of the night,
Who dance and play and sing,
When the moon is sailing high,
And with emotions bring,
Into the heart the moonbeams drop,
A song so soft and low,
Of love and reverence for the night,
Romantic thoughts will flow.
The clouds all stayed at home that night,
So nothing blocked my view,
I wondered if folks long ago,
Ever really knew,
That the brightness of the moon,
Is all about the sun,
Reflects the rays of light it sends,
After it’s daily run.
The lesson clear it spoke to me,
That we reflect light, too,
And when we make our orbit,
It’s what we’re supposed to do.
The light, it doesn’t come from us,
It comes right from the Son,
But if we’ll only do our part,
His life shines through each one.
The beauty of the soaring moon,
The thoughts and feelings, too,
Remind me of the Lord’s sweet love,
He shows to me and you.
“You are the light of the world…” (Matthew 5:14, NLT)
Jesus called His followers the “light of the world.” He HImself claimed to be the light of the world as well. So, which is it? The answer is “Yes!” Jesus is the true light of the world who wants to fill our lives with light. When His life shines through us, we become catalysts of the light. That’s why the moon is such a good analogy. We reflect the Lord’s glory or presence, just as the moon reflects the sun’s light. The questions remains: what is blocking the light of Christ in us? We all have our challenges, but God calls us to a life of unreserved surrender. Why? So that His light can flow through us! This is the best way to live and the most helpful to others. Be the light, as His light shines through.
Lord, help us to allow Your light to shine through us to the world, in Jesus’ name.
