"Mornin"

When a cowboy rises early,

To do what he must do,

And the mist is on the pastures,

Before the sun shines through,

In the quiet of the morning,

As the horses come to eat,

With a cup of steamin’ coffee,

And a biscuit buttered neat.

Some are only planning,

The day’s work in their mind,

The chores there on the check-list,

Or how he’ll spend his time.

But along with that schedule,

There are some who’ll say,

Good mornin’ to the Lord above,

And some attention pay,

To the Savior and Creator,

Of all that he will see,

And ask for God’s own favor,

On the day that’s soon to be.

And he knows that God is with him,

Though his past still haunts him some,

But he’s just glad he has the grace,

To do what must be done.

Take a little lesson,

From the cowboy when he prays,

And asks the Lord to bless him,

As he plans out his new day.

Life will be much better,

If we each day would start,

With a moment of devotion,

And a prayer done from the heart.

No matter where you’re living,

If we all began that way,

We’d feel the Holy Spirit,

As we’re working through the day.

Don’t miss Him in the morning,

As you rise and saddle up,

Make a habit, do some prayin’,

When you fill that coffee cup.

“O God, You are my God; I earnestly search for You…” (Psalm 63:1, NLT)

God is not playing games with us, as in the best hide-and-seekers find Him. But, truth is, the more I am willing to seek the Lord in true, heartfelt prayer, the more I will experience what He has planned for me. The Psalmist earnestly searched for the Lord because he knew if he did, he would experience the Lord’s unfailing love. There is something beautiful and comforting about that. We know He’s always with us, but we will become more aware of His presence if there is a time, everyday, when we seek the Lord. The scriptures tell us that we should pray without ceasing, but that will only be possible if we are intentionally setting aside time for the Lord. Even if you’re not a morning person, the earlier the better.

Lord, help us seek You in the morning when the day is young, in Jesus’ name.
