"Old"
Old is not a number,
It’s more about your mind,
And of course your energy,
Sometimes it’s hard to find.
It’s also ‘bout the pain you feel,
When you get out of bed,
Aches and creaks and crackin’ joints,
And what the doctor said.
It sometimes is a surgery,
And dealing with your weight,
How you see and how you hear,
And eating food you hate.
You still can do most everything,
That you used to do,
It just might be slower,
And more deliberate, too.
Keep moving and keep breathing,
Never waste a single day,
‘Cause you know they’re numbered,
The words of scripture say.
And if you pray and praise the Lord,
You might not add more days,
But add more life into your time,
And that’s what counts always.
Old cowboys, dogs and horses,
Hold a bit of romance, see,
Give a link to better times,
And all that used to be.
But in the end the old, you see,
Will come to this life’s end,
But for those who live by faith,
They really just begin.
Older gets you closer,
With each passing day,
Living full out until then,
Before you pass away.
“I as young, and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging for bread…” (Psalm 37:25, NIV)
The testimony of the psalmist points to God’s provision at every stage of life. He was young and now is old, but he’s never seen the Lord let anyone down. No matter our stage of life, God is faithful. He will care for us and provide for us, in ways that cannot be fully understood. But the good news is that we will never be forsaken by Him. One does not have to live very long to be disappointed by people. But the Lord does not disappoint. He will never let us down.
Lord, help us realize the power of Your faithfulness, in Jesus’ name.
