"One Second"
One second makes no difference,
Unless you’re on wild stock,
Throw the gate and hope for eight,
And you can’t cheat that clock.
One second makes no difference,
Unless you’re in a race,
To the wire, the win aspire,
But if you lose you place.
One second makes no difference,
Unless you’re out of time,
The last heartbeat with no repeat,
And no more chance to climb.
And right down to the second,
That moment you said yes,
To Jesus Christ who paid the price,
His saving grace will bless.
Years and months and days will pass,
And that second hand will tick,
Together and not whether,
It goes on thin or thick.
But in that final second,
When life and time will end,
The mercy seat with God’s love sweet,
Our eternity begins.
“Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord…” (2 Corinthians 5:8, NLT)
Paul expressed confidence about his eternal destiny. In fact his words describe instantaneously going into God’s eternal presence at the moment our bodies die. For him, to be absent from the body meant to be present with the Lord. His testimony was that either way, his goal was to please the Lord. If that is what we want to do, the Lord will give us the same confidence.
Lord, may we confidently look forward to the moment this life ends and eternity begins, in Jesus’ name.
