"Pain"
We all have this in common,
No matter who we are,
Pain that’s unavoidable,
For some it’s worse by far.
The pain caused by an injury,
Or illness we can’t heal,
No way to describe in words,
How bad that pain can feel.
Been eleven years ago,
I bucked off an old horse,
One I thought was gentle,
But I didn’t own of course.
And he surprised me on that day,
‘Cause just broke half in two,
And when I hit the ground so hard,
It shocked me through and through.
Broken hip and pelvis,
And two of my ribs broke,
Hard to say how bad it hurt,
Though many words I spoke.
Took awhile but I got well,
But many not so much,
Injuries their damage done,
And painful to the touch.
But worst of all not physical,
But inward pain we feel,
Drains away our energy,
And heartbreak that is real.
So what’s the answer, cowboy,
Cowgirl, what do you say,
When pain is what you live with,
And do it everyday.
I’ll say God’s our answer,
‘Cause He can bring relief,
Sometimes uses medicine,
To cure what causes grief.
But especially the wounded,
By hurt and inward pain,
By His stripes He heals us,
When we call on His name.
The Healer of the broken heart,
The One whose love has shown,
That He can do a miracle,
Because we are His own.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3, NIV)
God is the great healer. We have seen God touch people’s bodies and relieve sickness miraculously. We’ve also seen God use medical care, surgery, and prescriptions to restore people to physical health. But the greatest miracles happen when the grace of God heals people inwardly. God is able to forgive and save. He is able to heal the deepest wounds and injuries and empower us to forgive those who have hurt us. God is the One who energizes us to love our enemies and bless those who curse us. Relief is spelled J-E-S-U-S.
Lord, heal our pain, in Jesus’ name.
