"Plains of Amarillo"
The long plains of Amarillo,
Palo Duro wide and deep,
Hold fast for me sweet memories,
I know I’ll always keep.
It was there I wed my true love,
God brought such blessing then,
Days and years are passing,
But like yesterday was when,
We started this adventure,
And now we hear God’s call,
To do more than expected,
If we seek Him above all.
And, yes, it’s cowboy churchin’,
And living on the land,
And regular a-horseback,
To make a godly stand,
Against the evil that besets us,
And steals all that is true,
With the time the Good Lord gives us,
I’ll tell you what we’ll do.
We’ll pray like no tomorrow,
And intercede and seek,
The Lord to send revival,
Pour power on the weak.
We won’t tell Him how to do it,
We’ll just make our requests,
Then bind them to His perfect will,
And loosed from all the rest.
We’ll walk the land at evenin’,
And call the names in prayer,
And ask the Holy Spirit,
Would He please meet us there.
We’ll preach and teach the Gospel,
We’ll tell what God has done,
We’ll give our testimony,
With grace our race to run.
We’ll invite hungry people,
To gather at our place,
And there we’ll pray and fellowship,
And seek the Savior’s face.
We’ll break the curse the devil used,
Against our kin before,
We’ll stand against the devil’s schemes,
Won’t give place anymore.
And when the season’s over,
We’ll say good-bye to all,
And pass the torch to younger ones,
Who’ve learned to hear His call.
Into the arms of Jesus,
Our journey done at last,
Heaven’s pastures waiting,
As earth’s burdens far are cast.
And, Lord, You know the timing,
Of all we do and when,
And You’ll know when it’s over,
And let us know, too, then.
These old plains, they hold their magic,
We thank God when we come,
The Spirit gives refreshment,
Until the race is run.
“Yes, the Lord has done amazing things for us! What joy!” (Psalm 126:3, NLT)
God’s blessing is the source of all authentic joy. This is especially true if you have been through hard times and finally have a breakthrough. Maybe the valley was so long and low you thought you wouldn’t survive it. But then the Lord moved, life changed, and you are led into a whole new level of spiritual productivity. Maybe it happens when no one else believes it ever will. And then, miraculously, the Lord changes things so thoroughly that you know He had to be the One who did it. He surprises us with His grace! This is the kind of testimony that needs to be shared. How did it happen? What did you go through before it happened? What places and/or people did God use to make it so? May God use all of us to point others to what He alone can do.
Lord, use us to share Your blessing with others, in Jesus’ name.
