"Pray"

So there along the Brazos,

I found the shade so strong,

And stepped down from my pony,

But not for very long.

I’d been searchin’ on the river,

For a bull we couldn’t find,

I stopped to take a little break,

I knew no one would mind.

I prayed there by the river,

As my pony grazed nearby,

I know it might sound crazy,

But I tell the truth, no lie.

I asked the Lord to help me,

Find that old wand’ring bull,

And when I stepped back on my horse,

I felt my heart get full.

And in just a little while,

I rode up on him, see,

In fact I will admit it,

That bull walked up on me.

He looked at me, I looked at him,

And toward back home we went,

He didn’t try to get away,

But moved the way I sent.

As thought as I rode along,

How many times before,

I’d chased all sorts of cattle,

But fewer times than more,

I’d asked the Lord to help me,

And then I wondered why,

When I really do know better,

And He always helps my try.

I guess it’s just my habit,

To try and get things done,

Not always pray about it,

And let Him help my run.

Lord, I’m really sorry,

When I forget to pray,

Help me to do better,

Beginning on today.

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for…” (Matthew 7:7, NLT)

We’ve all prayed and not received what we asked for, right? So what is this promise from Jesus all about? It’s about how the Father wants to give good gifts to His children, but at times is limited by our lack of cooperation. If we pray, seek, and knock, however, it positions us to receive God’s highest and best, whether that coincides with our prayer request or not. In other words, God will give you what you ask for, or something better! In any case, we should consistently look to Him to provide what we need in every situation. The adventure of asking and receiving is one God wants all of us to experience. Pray up.

Lord, teach us to pray consistently about everything that concerns us, in Jesus’ name.
