"Promise"
Sometimes we think it’s over,
Our expectations lower,
And we throw up our hands and think we’re through.
But then there comes a glimmer,
Of hope that starts to simmer,
And we learn there is so much more to do.
Sometimes we think it’s too late,
And exhausted with a long wait,
The chance we had we think that we have missed.
But then an intervention,
It was just an intermission,
God was there to teach us to persist.
Sometimes no rhyme or reason,
Can explain the season,
And we’ve decided our best days are past.
But then the Holy Spirit,
Says nothing can inhibit,
The future blessing of the vision cast.
So look up when you’re weary,
And if your soul is dreary,
The joy of God is always there for you.
And that is where your strength lies,
Precious still in His eyes,
We stand upon His promises so true.
“For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” (Habakkuk 2:3, NIV)
The Lord encouraged the prophet Habakkuk to wait for what He had promised. Sometimes waiting is hard to do. This is especially true if we have received a vision from God that is a long time in coming to fruition. We are tempted to get tired, discouraged, and give up. But God always keeps His promises, and His schedule does not always coincide with ours. Whatever God has shown us does not require human effort to accomplish. We don’t have to “make it happen,” and if we do, more times than not we miss God’s timing and perfect will. That doesn’t mean we do nothing, but it does mean that we live in the inspiration of the vision until it accomplishes itself. God is never late!
Lord, help us trust Your timing, in Jesus’ name.
