"Quiet Welcome"

Let the desert speak to you,

Out there where all is peace,

Listen to the wind that blows,

Your inner noise release.

And when you ride the mountain,

Listen past the song,

Of hawk and all that live there,

And know that you belong,

To the Author of the mountain,

The Creator of all things,

And on the wind He’s speaking,

His word and peace it brings.

And when beside the water,

You hear the rolling wave,

Don’t miss that on the water,

You’ll feel the love He gave.

When Jesus came a-walking,

On this earth with all His friends,

The mountain and the desert,

And the water used to cleanse,

Their thoughts of all confusion,

Their hearts full of regret,

And though the Lord is everywhere,

He’ll meet His friends there yet.

And we know that the Spirit,

Will be there when you call,

No matter where you’re calling from,

His love extends to all.

But sometimes It’s the desert,

Or the mountain or the sea,

Where people become quiet enough,

And take the time to be,

Still enough to hear His voice,

To just be still and know,

That He alone is what they need,

And so to Him they go.

And no one who has done it,

Brings back the complaint,

That the Spirit was elusive,

Or His presence showed restraint.

But rather quiet welcome,

And grace to heal the worst,

Tender loving mercy,

And blessing swapped for curse.

Be still and know that He is God,

Come and seek His face,

Find in Him all that you need,

In your own quiet place.

“Be still and know that I am God…” (Psalm 46:10, NLT)

Perhaps one of the most challenging things for us to do is to be still and quiet. Life is noisy, which can make it very difficult to hear the voice of the Lord. i learned this again when I recently went to Idaho and spent time off the grid gathering cattle. On the high desert and mountains, both the external and internal noise subsided and I was able to hear things the Lord wanted to say to me. I was both refreshed and challenged by what I heard. Find a quiet place and ask the Lord for His help. You’ll be glad you did.

Lord, help us to get quiet, be still, and listen to You, in Jesus’ name.
