"Rain"

The wind blew hot and dry that night,

A lightning streak and what a sight,

But the weather man again was right,

We didn’t get a rain.

The pasture’s bake and grass won’t grow,

When will it rain, we’d like to know,

But weather is a flirt, no-show,

And drought steals all our gain.

Across the west the sad, old song,

Folks hope it won’t be very long,

Before we get this dry spell gone,

And we get some relief.

Life-giving moisture fills the tanks,

And we’ll be glad to give God thanks,

But until then the river’s banks,

Show everyone our grief.

The old folks tell us just hold on,

‘Cause they’ve been through it, got along,

When it was dry their faith was strong,

And they learned how to pray.

So, Lord, it’s really up to You,

We have done all we can do,

We have Your promise, know it’s true,

Give us a rainy day.

“He covers the heavens with clouds, provides rain for the earth, and makes the grass grow in mountain pastures…” (Psalm 147:8, NLT)

In this psalm the Lord is described as the one who heals the brokenhearted, counts the stars by name, and sends rain to the earth. We all go through dry weather, and also times when our souls get dry. It’s important during those times to keep on trusting the Lord. Is it easy? No. But is it important? Absolutely! We can trust Him to help us through life’s most difficult seasons, and give us the grace we need until the circumstances change and get better. He is Lord of this season, too.

Lord, help us to trust You with every need, in Jesus’ name.
