"Reasons"

I don’t know all the reasons,

I feel the way I do,

Maybe the way they raised me,

And all that I’ve been through.

Way back when a cowboy,

And all that cowboy means,

A-horseback and a-thinkin’,

That this is all it seems.

And lovin’ that old country,

And pastures, woods, and sky,

The smell of horse and cattle,

The things that make me sigh.

I love my friends and family,

I love God’s people, too,

I love the Lord who bought me,

His Word and Spirit, too.

I’ve lived a life of blessing,

And failure strong and sad,

Regrets and foils and fumbles,

And troubles I have had.

But through it all the Savior,

Has been my strength and shield,

And I am always thankful,

For how He makes me feel.

In fact the truth is really,

That all my lifetime through,

Jesus is the reason,

For my best days, it’s true.

And when my life is over,

My spurs and saddle there,

My horses gone and turned out,

And what is left I share.

I’ll go when Jesus calls me,

To that fair pastureland,

To be with Him forever,

I built on rock, not sand.

Let’s go, I hear Him calling,

I’ve led your mount this way,

And we will ride together,

In that eternal day.

“…Think about the things of heaven…” (Col. 3:2, NLT)

What do you think about when you think of heaven? I believe it will be everything we’ve ever hoped for and more. But the best thing about heaven is not what is there, but who is there. Home is mostly about who, not what. And the biggest “who” is Jesus! Being with Him forever is heaven indeed. And then there are all the people who love Him and who have gone there before us. The scriptures describe them as a “great cloud of witnesses.” They have finished the race and passed the baton to us. When we get there they will welcome us, too. It’s truly going to be wonderful. What do you think when you think of heaven? Think about it.

Lord, help us focus on what matters eternally, in Jesus’ name.
