"Reign"

Sometimes I can’t help but think,

This world totters on the brink,

Of all that’s evil, my hopes sink,

And then I turn to Him.

He’s not surprised, nor worried still,

And in the end His sovereign will,

One day even death He’ll kill,

The vision is not dim,

But bright, as ever sun can shine,

The grace to overcome is mine,

His peace says to us, all is fine,

And every knee will bow.

I don’t know how, by faith I see,

The worldly wise say it can’t be,

But God’s truth still will set us free,

What His hand will allow.

Light and darkness, lines are drawn,

We must be sure what side we’re on,

And praise anew with every dawn,

Until He says enough.

Then He with all the ransomed crew,

Will come to see what God can do,

And those opposing will be through,

Their lights out with a puff.

They say his breath is like a sword,

Sharper then when He points toward,

Believers wait for their reward,

And praise the King of kings.

Evil vanquished once for all,

Nothing can His reign forestall,

Angels sing and saints recall,

All creation sings.

“…that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:10-11, NIV)

Paul spoke of what was eternally inevitable- the reign of Jesus. One day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess Jesus as Lord. That means everyone who has ever lived, universal in scope. Jesus is exalted to the place of highest honor by God the Father because of His willingness to suffer the penalty of humankind’s sin on the cross. Jesus reigns now between the times of His resurrection and second coming. He is the unseen and unacknowledged ruler over all things now. But every enemy has not submitted to His reign. One day they all will, and death itself will be destroyed. We have the high honor of living for Jesus now. He is our victory.

Lord, help us bow the knee and confess You as Lord, in Jesus’ name.
