"Rodeo Prayer"
We’re gathered here, the 76th year,
For this great rodeo,
We give You praise, this banner raise,
‘Cause in our hearts we know,
That God it’s You, Your blessing true,
That brought us here tonight,
Bless all who came, in Jesus’ name,
And help us do what’s right.
We thank You for, all those who swore,
They’d fight to keep us free,
And those in blue, faithful and true,
And may they always be.
Help us to stay, the cowboy way,
And follow that old code,
Lord, You are Judge, and we won’t budge,
We’ll get our horses rode.
May every hand ride for Your brand,
Secure our folks and stock,
And bless our country, too, O Lord,
Return us to the rock,
Of faith in You, show us what to do,
Revive our souls again,
And bless this place, and set the pace,
Right now from where we’ve been.
Keep the Posse strong, for we all belong,
According to Your plan,
To Christ who died, was crucified,
And rose to save each man.
So, on this night, shine strong Your light,
Into each heart and mind,
Teach us Your way, so everyday,
Your best for us we find.
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14, NLT)
This is the oft-quoted verse that has been called God’s recipe for revival. I wrote this poem as a prayer for the Wednesday night performance of the Parker County Frontier Days Rodeo in Weatherford, Texas. The prayer the Lord gave me has everything to do with returning to the Lord and asking Him to heal our nation. The call is specifically to God’s people, those who know Him. If we will do these things, humbly and consistently, the Lord will do what only He can do. Let us seek Him.
Lord, turn our hearts and our nation to You, in Jesus’ name.
