"Runaway"

Life’s become a runaway,

Can’t rein it in or make it stay,

And at a gallop I will say,

It just ought not to be.

Oh, sure, it’s fine to travel fast,

A little while, not meant to last,

You miss too much, you go right past,

Things you ought to see.

As a kid on my first ride,

Dad was right there by my side,

But he rode off I will confide,

And left me on this horse.

Another came, my pony scared,

And that fellow should have cared,

About my ride, he only stared,

As my pony ran, of course.

I fell off and rolled awhile,

Came up with a tear, no smile,

Turns out it was just a trial,

And my Dad said to me,

Climb back up we’ll go again,

And Lord knows I was scared by then,

That speed had almost done me in,

But I obeyed, you see.

I rode and this time we went slow,

My confidence to build you know,

Side by side and here we go,

It all turned out okay.

So I learned quite early on,

That going fast can get you gone,

But better if you trot along,

Enjoy life day by day.

Find your pace, enjoy each sight,

Your rein is there, so use it right,

Always riding in the light,

And do the best you can.

The Good Lord helping you along,

He’s the One who’ll keep you strong,

And show you right where you belong,

By His grace make your stand,

And live out His great plan.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NLT)

Living by faith means we learn to trust the Lord in every situation of our lives. When we do, He determines our pace and helps us to keep in step with Him. If we don’t trust Him, we tend to run ahead or lag behind His will. But the Lord knows what’s supposed to happen and when. He will help us stay on track and on time. He helps us to make the necessary adjustments so that we may experience His highest and best. His plan is never rushed.

Lord, help us to be on track and on time, in Jesus’ name.
