"Saved Cowboy"

Preacher saw when he came in,

Knew he’d not seen him before,

But other men offered him their hand,

When he walked through the door.

Well-known amongst the cattle men,

A cowboy friend to all,

And here he sat, gave some surprise,

On the back row near the wall.

But he was surely there all right,

And awake right to the end,

And after prayer to close things out,

Asked the preacher to commend,

Some passages that he could read,

He needed help, you see,

The doctor said it won’t take long,

His final days to be.

The cancer was too far to cure,

Too much to overcome,

Figure out what I should read,

Before my life is done.

Ther preacher gave him verses,

About God’s saving grace,

The work of God’s own spiriti,

The running of the race.

And when next Sunday rolled around,

The cowboy came back, too,

He got the preacher to the side,

And said here’s what let’s do.

I need to get myself baptized,

I’ve asked Him for His grace,

I just want to do what’s right,

And see the Savior’s face.

So off they went and got it done,

Where the willows meet the creek,

And those who went felt God has moved,

A lot in just a week.

The cowboy lived another year,

Till the cancer took its toll,

And from that day right down to this,

He only had one goal,

And that was tell what Jesus did,

For him when he called out,

And his life showed all who saw,

What salvation is about.

They led his horse along the path,

When they gathered at the grave,

The preacher spoke of how he came,

And asked the Lord to save.

No dry eye was found that day,

When they all said good-bye,

Hats in hands, they looked away,

And felt the Lord draw nigh.

A cowboy friend who prayed the prayer,

And then the lost was found,

In God’s presence  there he waits,

Till we are heaven bound.

“…that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9, NAS)

Believing and confessing brings salvation. We must believe in Jesus and what He did to save us, then put our trust in His grace. Confessing Jesus means that the spiritual transaction that has take place in our heart flows out of our mouths. We gladly say Jesus is Lord. Jesus said if we confess Him before men He will acknowledge us before the Father. But if we fail to confess Him, He will deny that He ever knew us. This is serious business, perhaps the most serious of all. All who call on the Lord will be saved. Believe it.

Lord, help us to believe in You and confess You as Lord, in Jesus’ name.
