"Seasons"

The seasons always changing,

And our lives rearranging,

Our feelings oft estranging,

Us from deep within.

What should be a big blessing,

Can do some mental messing,

If you are distressing,

‘Bout now and where you’ve been.

The past is gone forever,

We can’t regain it ever,

Tomorrow an endeavor,

That we cannot yet see.

So why all this depression,

Tempting toward regression,

Finding sad expression,

To steal what yet will be.

You may think cowboys never,

Are challenged when they sever,

The past with now’s whatever,

But we still struggle, too.

To put the past behind us,

And not let old guilt find us,

The Spirit will remind us,

We have been born anew.

And with the grace He’s given,

The pow’r to be forgiven,

And it’s for Him we’re livin’,

So get up and go on.

The devil is a liar,

And his is not the power,

That can put out our fire,

In Jesus’ name, begone.

The Lord of every season,

Our lives His grace the reason,

And we pray we are pleasin’,

The One who gives us life.

Our feelings and our choices,

Our words and all our voices,

And He with us rejoices,

The bride of Jesus Christ.

“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” (Ecc. 3:1, NLT)

Life moves in seasons, and not just the seasons of the year. Birth, childhood, youth, young adult, middle age, and older and ulitimately, physical death, are all seasons, too, measured by the passage of time. Life’s seasons are also about lessons learned, wisdom gained, and spiritual progress. The change that accompanies the changing seasons of life can be depressing rather than exhilarating. Depression, discouragement and hopelessness grip people in a vise-like bondage of despair. But it does not have to be. Why? Because of God’s love, our Savior, Jesus Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit moving in our lives. Jesus is Lord of all the seasons of life, and none are wasted by His redemptive grace. Forgiveness, healing, and liberty to walk in the newness of life are all God’s gifts that transcend any season we pass through. He is the constant. He is leading. And He is love.

Lord, help us to surrender every season of life to You, and surrender ourselves in every season, in Jesus’ name.
