"Smartastic"
I know you haven’t heard it,
It really is fantastic,
My wife, Stacey, made it up,
When she called me “smartastic.”
What on earth does this word mean,
I knew that you would ask it,
It clearly is a cross-bred word,
That starts out with smart-alec,
Combined with plain sarcastic,
Which is how I am sometimes,
‘Specially if I’m on a roll,
Rehearsing someone’s crimes.
Lord, help me to soon change my ways,
Deliver from smartastic,
Kind and gentle with my words,
And not so derned bombastic.
“When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit…” (1 Corinthians 2:13, NLT)
This verse and others like it make the point that the Holy Spirit will give us the right words to communicate. Sometimes we fall into the world’s trap of using the wrong language to convey our thoughts and feelings. Sometimes it’s just better to say nothing. But if we are compelled to speak, especially when it comes to communicating spiritual, biblical truth, it’s best not to be “smartastic.”
Lord, help us speak the words Your Spirit gives us to speak, in Jesus’ name.
