"Sometimes I Wonder"

Sometimes I really wonder,

‘Bout all the change we’ve had,

Think lots about the old days,

When good was good and bad was bad.

A man would stick his hand out,

And look you in the eye,

And if he made a promise,

It was do or die.

And kids, they were taught manners,

Yessir and thank you, ma’am,

You stood and pledged allegiance,

Had high regard for Uncle Sam.

And everybody had to work,

We all had chores to do,

It was just what was expected,

We worked till we were through.

That’s why I love the cowboy way,

A throwback to back when,

You knew who you could count on,

And who was a true friend.

I’m just one of those oldsters,

With nostalgia in my blood,

But maybe we should think about,

What has become a flood,

Of lawlessness, entitlement,

And calling what’s wrong right,

The Bible says the darkest,

Happens just before God’s light.

So pray and work for Jesus,

And make each moment count,

‘Cause one day He is coming,

And we will give account.

“Be patient, then, brothers until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains.” (James 5:7, NIV)

James counsels believers to be patient regarding the Lord’s coming. We should not be so surprised when secular culture becomes more and more idolatrous. This is exactly what the Scriptures predict. At the same time, our patience should be like that of a farmer who patiently waits the right amount of rain he needs to produce a good harvest. There is no way to rush the harvest, but to be faithfully assured that, in due time, all that the Lord has promised will come true. Living expectantly is every believer’s birthright.

Lord, help us to exercise patience and live expectantly, in Jesus’ name.
